Organic Business Forum will bring together Catalan organic producers and exporters with importers and distributers from Scandinavia along one day with an extensive program of sector meetings and B2B meetings.

These meetings will last for 20 minutes with each buyer, will be made according to a schedule established by the organization. Its aim is to boost synergies and generate satisfying business for all the attendants, both buyers and producers.

THE ORGANIC SECTOR IN CATALONIA

The organic sector is becoming one of the vectors with the greatest potential and growth in Catalonia. The organic agricultural production closed the year 2017 with an increase of 17% over the previous year, marking a clear upward trend in all the historical data series available.

These figures of organic production have a direct reflection in the data of the agri-food industry related to the ecological sector. With a growth of 16% in 2017, the organic agro-food industry is gaining ground respecting the conventional one.

The Catalan agrifood industry is one of the most dynamic export sectors of the Catalan economy, as evidenced by the sustained increase in both the economic volume of exports and the percentage that the agrifood sector accounts for in the economy as a whole.

AGRIFOOD INDUSTRY SECTOR BUSINESS DATA

Agrifood is one of the main sectors of the Catalan economy: it is a leading and benchmarking hub in Europe.

With over 3,573 food and beverage companies and accounting for 23.8% of manufacturing industry GDP, 19.7% of the industrial GDP and 3.8% of Catalonia’s GDP, the food and beverage sector is Catalonia’s most important industry. It employs 19.1% of the workforce and generates a turnover of over € 28.7bn / year.

Catalan products represent 24% of food and beverage turnover in Spain as a whole. Fine food is the subsector with the highest turnover (34%), followed by meat (31%), olive oil (10,3%), wine & cava (5,3%) and fruit & vegetables (3,2%).
